Portraits of the Anthropocene

This lengthy, ongoing series began in 2016 when I received a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship to work on drawings and paintings of early human fossils and their ecology at the Natural History Museum in Washington, DC and in 2017 at the Nairobi National Museum in Kenya, as well as the Smithsonian research site at Olorgesailie, Kenya. I drew from observation every day while in Kenya and have supplemented my field study with continued drawing since then as a Research Associate at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in the Human Origins Program.
